Freedom Friday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/19/08)

The Teixeira Bonanza isn't really going as planned for...well...anyone. And frankly I don't get it. MLBTR has the confusing updates involved, but last night the Red Sox, led by Owner John Henry, met with Tex and little was resolved. Henry's dubious response after meeting with Boras and his client in Vegas was:

"We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor."

Ok...Who the fuck is offering more?

• Rumor has it the Sox offered no more than $184 over 8 years - $23 million a year
• The LA Times Mike Digiovanna claims the Angels offered 8 years and $175 million - roughly $22 million a year
• Yesterday morning the Sox has the highest offer on the table...I still surmise its the $23 million per year deal and the Sox have no desire to go to $25 per ($200 mil).
• As of Wednesday the O's appeared to be out of it though the O's GM Andy MacPhail claims the Orioles have flexibility"...whatever that is.
• And that brings us to this: SI's Jon Heyman claims the Nationals may be at the $200 million mark. Are they really the highest bidder?
  

No one knows, but it seems plausible. I find it hard to believe that given all we've heard about Tex wanting to play near his hometown in Maryland that he'd reject a ridiculously high offer from a team in the area or even attempt to get another (competitive) squad to compete against them...then again, maybe he realizes that playing in Boston or New York (my presumed landing spots) would be just as advantageous as Baltimore. Or maybe he just really wanted to be an O and not a Nat (seems more plausible).

• The Sports Guy ranks his NFL clubs...still a jackass... But here's the part I hate about the Simmons expose:

  Here's the theory I'm buying: The Eagles caught the Cards on a cross-country Thanksgiving trip 96 hours after their previous game, then a rattled Giants team right after Cheddar Plaxgate, then a putrid Browns team on Monday night. Now they're catching the Redskins right as they're quitting on their coach. That's four straight totally explainable wins. Do not get reeled in by Philly for that Week 17 home game against Dallas. I am warning you right now.

  The point is, Andy Reid's Eagles are 5-1 versus Dallas in December, with that one being his first year with a shit squad. This team gets up for Dallas. You can feel the buzz in the city. Moreover, if its for a playoff spot, and its in Philly, you can't tell me they don't have a shot. Oh...and who have fluke 5 game winning streaks?!?!
  
• No Elton...actually...No Problem. I have a feeling the Sixers will find their winning edge with Brand out. That being said, they still need to factor his 20-10 in at some point and this injury is just a delay in that transition.
  
• Ever wonder how much that Raiders game meant to Matt Cassel, Rawbeezeits of AGM has more.
• AA throws more fuel on the Simmons-ESPN Conspiracy fire. This time its a dig at Rick Reilly. That being said, Reilly sucks ass and Simmons is probably right.

Leftover Tuesday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/16/08)

Again, another Monday Night Bust. Now as an Eagles fan, I certainly take solace in the win, but I'll be honest; beyond the first quarter the game was uninteresting...especially to a national base. What it do do was assist in explaining the playoff scenarios, which essentially leave the top four something like this:

1. Dallas Cowboys - Win out and they're in (Baltimore, @ Philadelphia). That being said, they certainly have the toughest remaining schedule, given that Baltimore most likely needs to win out as well to get in and Philadelphia is potentially playing for a birth of its own and/or pride in preventing the Cowboys fromg getting in
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Again, win out and they're in (San Diego, Oakland). Tampa faces the most interesting test. Oakland is a total slouch and easy game, while the San Diego game wreaks of potential upset given the way the Bucs have played the last two weeks. Still San Diego has to travel and the Buc defense is still fairly solid. They appear to have the easiest road into the playoffs
   
3. Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons technically need help to get in, and as state above, they also need to win out (@ Minnesota, St. Louis). Should either the Cowboys or Bucs falter once, the Falcons then move into position to claim a spot. The hitch is Minnesota (9-5) has a 1 game lead on Chicago (8-6) and also has the Giants in week 17. Should the Giants lose to Carolina and fall to 11-4, Minnesota has a chance to overtake the second seed and a bye by beating them (tying their record and having the head-to-head tie breaker). So Minnesota has plenty of incentive to win. Their running attack could crush Atlanta, but their quarterback (Tavaris Jackson), regardless of his four TD game, is still a huge question mark.
4. Philadelphia Eagles - The Eagles are essentially in the same position as the Falcons and they also have two tough games that they must win (@ Washington, Dallas). Fortunately, by virtue of defeating Dallas in week 17, the Eagles move up (and everyone else) one spot. And therefore, they need one loss, by either Tampa or Atlanta to assume the 6th seed (and if both lose, the 5th). It may appear that they're in the worst position of the four, but its basically the same as Atlanta's and I'd argue the Cowboys is worse (they have the two toughest games by far).
   
5. Chicago Bears - The most improbable of playoff births, Chicago needs tons of help and also must win out (Packers, @ Texans). Then they need three of the following four things to happen: A) Cowboys lose to both Baltimore and Philly, B) The Falcons to lose to Minnesota and and St. Louis, C) The Bucs to lose to San Diego and Oakland, or D) The Eagles to lose once to either Dallas or Washington. Of course, this can be alleviated by Minnesota losing out (Atlanta, New York Giants) and Chicago winning out, thus giving them a one game lead. I'd argue this is Chicago's best chance.
6. New Orleans Saints and Washington Redskins - Technically speaking, they both can get in contingent on winning out, but its almost impossible. They need four of the five teams above to lose out in order to get in and some other weird instances. Its essentially impossible.
   

In a nut shell, Tampa and Dallas have the easiest paths (i.e. control their own destiny), but Atlanta probably as a solid shot at the sixth seed. Philly needs some help and unless Minnesota loses out, I don't see Chicago getting in. Should be a fun two weeks...

• Carl Peterson resigns as the Chiefs GM...Probably because that team has perpetually sucked ass for years (though they have had their occasional explosive team). This can't bode well for Herm "You play to win the game!" Edwards.
  
• The Phillies made a few subtle moves, keeping Jamie Moyer and adding Chan Ho Park. The Park deal is one year at $2.5 million that could reach $5 million with incentives. The Moyer deal is believes to be as much as $20 million, most likely based on some incentives (I surmise innings pitched, as his previous deal was).
  
• After news of the Angels 8 year offering over the weekend, it appears the Red Sox have made their own 8 year contract offering. Tim Dierkes at MLBTR cites Michael Silver of the Boston Herald in the possibility that the deal could be worth more than $170 million and perhaps close to $200.
• In some other stunning developments, Rafael Furcal is expected to go back to Atlanta and Jake Peavy is now going to stay in San Diego...for now.
• Chase Utley appeared before the Philadelphia media yesterday to address things from his surgery to his now infamous parade speech. He plans to be ready for opening day, though the Phils are more pessimistic, expecting Eric Bruntlett to fill in for about a month. And he had this to say about his World Series speech:

  "That was definitely an emotional day that we all had," Utley said. "That drive down Broad Street to the park was one of the best days of my life. I imagine for a lot of Phillies fans it was the same. I could have used different words to express myself. At the time, I didn't. I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that. But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it.' And I'm dead serious."

  Is there any doubt this guy won't be in Philly (and a hero) for his entire career?
• Jared Allen believes in Karma...which is ironic given his thoughts regarding Carl Peterson.
• Someone at the LA Times refered to Northeastern Alum Jose Juan Barea as a "Mexican Smurf" - Man that paper is alllll classssss. For the record, JJB is not 6 feet tall...oh and he's Puerto Rican...If I remember correctly...Mayaguez is his home town.

Shoe-Throwing Monday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/15/08)

It'll have to be an abbreviated version today, but I will post the MMBBQ later today.

• Someone threw a shoe at the President. We'll post this because of his athletic prowess involved in avoiding not one but two shoes...secret service a little slow on that one eh?
• The Cowboys beat the Giants in spite of the TO-Witten-Romo love triangle. So clearly it was Garcia, McNabb, Ed Werder and the driveway's fault for all of T.O.'s transgressions...poor guy, he gets in trouble for everything
• 0 and 16 is just 2 weeks away. With the Saints and Packers lurking, it seems not only plausible, but probable. By the way if you go to http://www.0and16.com it redirects to the Detroit Lions website...yeah...awesome
• In the wake of blowing over $240 million over 8 years to two pitchers, the Yankees look to add a hitter at probably another $20 mil a year.
• If you didn't see the Steelers-Ravens game yesterday, you missed some serious controversey. I say "No TD" but they have one more down at the 1 foot line so I'd still surmise the Steelers score...even against the Ravens

Sunday Sunday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/14/08)

Well, what have we got here. Some hellacious headlines throughout the world of sports:

• The Phillies sign Raul Ibanez for 3 years, $30 million. I can't say I'm thrilled, but I can't say I'm disappointed. Ibanez will probably hit close to 40 points higher than displaced Pat Burrell and may equal his power numbers (Ibanez had roughly 10 homers less but 20 RBIs more). Problem is, Ibanez is only slightly better on defense and again, only slightly faster. Burrell is also almost 5 years younger and seems likely to to regress as much in the coming years.
  
• What the hell is going on in Dallas? Terrell Owens is finally tearing apart the team at the seams. And we all predicted this. With so much on the line, for both the team and Owens's career, I can't believe he would do this. But the feud between him and Tight End Jason Witten wreaks of jealousy and stupidity. Moreover, throwing another QB, Tony Romo, under the bus only proves that he was indeed the problem now and at each previous location, thus vindicating Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb and their accompanying fans. My only question(s) remaining are, what team does Owens retire on and if he would make the hall of game, what jersey would he wear?
  
• Avery's a fallen Star. Well that didn't take long. Word out of Dallas (what a tough place to be right now) is that Sean Avery is not only not being welcomed with open arms, he's not welcome at all. Details of what's next are sketchy. He could be sent down to the minors, traded or bought out after one season. But with all his transgressions, its hard seeing any team swallow his 4 year $15.5 million dollar contract in the new capped NHL. Avery finally talked himself into a hole he cannot get out of.
  
• Goodbye Mo Cheeks. After losing 8 of 10 and starting the season 9-14 with a new star (Elton Brand), Mo Cheeks was canned. I can't blame the Sixers for this one, though it was hardly all on Cheeks (who's playoff squad started slow last year and still finished below .500). The Sixers legend walked out of an Arena that once (well, next to the arena) chanted his name a disgraced coach.
  
• The Yankees strike again with Burnett. This time, it was a 5 year $82.5 million dollar contract for what will probably be their third starter (Sabathia-Wang-Burnett-Chamberlain-Hughes/Kennedy). I thought I remembered Chamberlain being returned to the pen for '09, but I could be wrong. Either way, I believe Kennedy and Hughes could be effective 4 and 5 guys in 2009. If Joba remains the starter, that's a hell of a 1-4, assuming they all stay healthy (and that is a big if for each as time goes by). And while people mock the cash-crazed Yankees who maybed $209 million for last year's non-playoff team, its important to remember that this years projected team is going to be less after $60+ million came off the books and it appears as though close to 40 million will be back on. Unless then sign Mark Teixeira...then all bets are off.
  
• K-Rod sends message to Phils -

  "Of course, we're going to try to win the division. Of course, we're going to be the front-runner. Of course, we're going to be the team to beat." -Francisco Rodriguez

  What a fraud. Admittedly, Jimmy Rollins made a declaration in 2007 after losing the division to the Mets the previous year, but declaring yourself, a newly minted teammate, the team to beat after your opponent just won the World Series is a bit of a joke. It's ashame the ring ceremony couldn't be held with the Mets in town. Check out thefightins.com look at the Mets threats throughout the years.
  
• Royals sign Farnsworthless. Who would actually pay this guy to pitch? Almost $5 million a year no less. No watch him make the All-Star squad.

• Goodbye Texas Stadium, We hardly cared about ye. I say burn the bitch down.
  
• T.O. says he's not jealous. Riiiiight.
• The Phillies added Raul Ibanez, thus ending the Pat Burrell era...ugh. Not once during Pat's 8 year tenure as a Phil, did I actually think this day would come and I'd miss him; then the 2nd half of last season and this one came and now I'm actually annoyed the Phils let him walk. Weird.
• It appears as though A.J. Burnett is about to sign. And my guess is the Yankees. So is Hal Steinbrenners.
  
• There's a new contender for Jake Peavy - The California Angels of...fuck it, its the Angels.
• Sean McAdam of the Boston Globe thinks Mark Teixeira's options are pretty much either the Angels or Red Sox. Given those options, I bet he goes Sox, but I don't think you can count out the hometown Orioles or Nationals for the former Ranger.
  
• Donovan McNabb delivers a big F.U. to Andy Reid. Not really, but he certainly decries the Reid Benching of McNabb.

Mets Make Moves Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/11/08)

Between yesterday's hijacked K-Rod signing headline (specifically by the Yankees and Sabathia) and today's massive J.J. Putz trade (which probably pissed off a few Fantasy keeper league players), the Mets are easily in much better shape then they were 365 days ago. You could make the argument that Billy Wagner to Francisco Rodriguez is a wash (when comparing last year's Wagner to this year's K-Rod, it seems reasonable, though K-Rod has the edge), but the addition of Putz and possibly the subtraction of Aaron Heilman clearly makes the Mets bullpen so (soooo) much better than last year.

Of course the one thing signing Rodriguez and trading for Putz doesn't do is A) Bring them a World Championship (at least not yet) and B) take the Phillies Championship away. It also shifts the pressure right back on the Mets...again. After the who "team to beat" issue two years ago and then the Johan Santana scenario this year, the Mets created a storm of pressure on themselves to win it (and probably win it all). This year, its just more of the same. That being said, the preservation of three wins over last year (all things holding equal) will certainly give the Mets a much better post season shot. You can point question marks at the end of the rotation: Can Pelfrey continue his success and what will we see out of Brandon Knight and Jonathan Niese? Or you can look at parts of the lineup: What can you expect from the right side of the infield? What can the corner outfielders produce?

The final question mark? What do you get from J.J. Putz. Obviously he has to pass a physical; so its fairly safe to assume he's healthy. But is he okay with being a setup man? Putz has essentially two years left on his deal (this year and a club option for next). So depending on how this plays out, they may be his only two years in Queens.

Oh well, just for shits and giggles.

• First off, as the offseason plays out I cannot stress enough how cool this site is. Its called Cot's Baseball Contracts and is a fascinating and elaborate depiction of every team's payroll and each player's contracts to as much detail as the writer can provide. He doesn't claim to be dead on accurate, but pretty damn close. Its well worth a look around and an excellent resource in my opinion.
• And the Mets struck back by claiming the headlines over the Yankees acquisition of Mike Cameron in exchange for Melky Cabrera. This trade isn't finalized but appears immenent.
  
• Rumor has it the Orioles and Nationals have both offered Mark Teixeira massive contracts estimated at over 20 million per season. The O's are rumored to offer $150 million + and the Nats $160 million plus. It certainly upts the ante on the deal, as teams like the Red Sox, Angels and Yankees may have to pay more simply because of their location (though both New York and Boston have a slight edge). Again, I believe if the Sox offer enough (perhaps even 170 or 180), they'll get their man, though they might be in a worse position given their current first and third base starters.
  
• It appears as though the Clinton Portis - Jim Zorn dispute was over before it started. Zorn cleared with the media yesteday afternoon. In watching PTI last night, Michael Wilbon brought up an excellent point (and agreed that Portis had a valid point): With players always wanting coaches to be up front and "man up" about these issues, why to Portis go to the media first? Valid point or not, this is no way to go about it.
  
• Via PFT, Looks like the Arena League is still on. For now.
  
• All quiet on the western front as the Dallas Stars have been mum on the Avery Situation. Given the Tom Hicks meeting with his major front office players, I have a feeling this is the end of Avery and the Stars, though they may try to trade him. Still, I'm curious why Hicks doesn't let his management handle this, since the baseball offseason is in full swing and he, y'know, might be needed to write checks elsewhere.
  
• Eric Byrnes for Julio Lugo? Really? Am I the only one who's thinking the Sox would be totally hosing the D-Bags for this one?
  
• I'll start for the Lions...on second thought, maybe not...
• Looks like its back to the Tavaris Jackson era in Minnesota.

NFC South Edition Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/10/08)

Wowee. A fantastic game last night with the Carolina Panthers exerting their dominance over the Tampa Bay Bucs. Carolina seemed more than up to the challenge with both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart leading the way; both with over 100 rushing yards and two TDs.

What this did only slightly clarified the NFC playoff picture:

The Panthers and Giants clearly have the inside track to Byes in the playoffs by virtue of their 11-2 and 10-3 records, with only Tampa just one win back. Minnesota and Arizona the other emminent division winners (AZ has already captured a spot and Minnesota is three games up with three to play, win one and they're in) are two back on Carolina and three behind New York, they seem likely to stay where they are.

In the wild card, Dallas and Tampa have the inside track here, though Tampa has a game in Atlanta that could be crucial to the NFC Wild card picture. Win here and Tampa is all but assured a spot as they'll face San Diego and Oakland to end their season at home. Atlanta, meanwhile, will have to face the aforementioned Tampa, go to Minnesota in a game they may not mean too much to the Vikings and finish up with St. Louis in a gimme game. Dallas has the toughest road, facing the Giants and Ravens at home before traveling to Philadelphia to face the Eagles, in what could be a play-in game if the Falcons lose at least one more game and both Philly and Dallas win their next two. Philly's road is fairly simple. Beat the Browns on Monday night, Beat the Redskins in Washington and beat Dallas. Either Tampa Bay needs to lose two outta three (not likely) or Atlanta needs to lose one (more likely) and they're in. If Atlanta loses next week, Philly will control their own destiny, as will Tampa Bay.

Morning After Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/8/08)

Well, the dust has settled and we've learned a few things this weekend:

• The college football "regular season" has come to an end leaving Oklahoma and Florida left as National Title Game entrants. This game has the looks of a dandy, but I think Florida is so superior that this one will, again, be over around the 3rd quarter.
• The Fiesta Bowl, pitting the 3rd potential NTG entrant, Texas against Big 10 also ran Ohio State has all the makings of a crap-fest. OSU has no business in a BCS bowl after losing to both USC and Penn State and has been a BCS joke as of late. I don't see Texas winning by less than 10.
• The Sugar Bowl does look better though. While I'm slightly unfamiliar with how the BCS system works, its ashame they couldn't put 'Bama againt Texas in what could have essentially been a 3rd place game. Alas, Alabama will be facing Utah in the annual, "We belong here!" game. I just don't see Utah hanging with a tough 'Bama squad
• The Orange Bowl sorta represents why the BCS is kind of lame. Because both the relatively mediocre ACC and Big East are BCS conferences, they each get at least one entrant. At least they managed to contain the crapfest to just this one game. It should still be a good game with Cincy finishing on top.
• And another that could be a dandy is the Rose Bowl. While it doesn't have the glam of the National Title Game, this bowl looks second best to be given that OSU and Utah make the other two decent bowls look a little sluggish. PSU is a team with real moxy, but USC has all the swagger and talent in the world. This one could be good and it pains me to say, Pete Carroll and his Trojans will close out the season with a win and a National Title Game gripe...

Meanwhile, in the world of professional football:

• The Eagles punished the Giants, defeating them 20-14. Those proving the paradigm of the division that any one team can beat any other on any given Sunday. Brian Westbrook strung together 130+ rushing yards, 70+ receiving yards and a pair of TDs to keep the Eagles hopes alive
• The Green Bay Packers have officially emploded and with a 24-21 stunning loss to the Texans. Don't blame Aaron Rodgers here, but with the Vikings 3 game lead (by virtue of their win over the Lions), they have all but no shot at making it in.
• Fortunately for Packers fans; a Jets loss, coupled with Pats escaping victory in Seattle and a Miami victory over the Canadian National team, has created a 3-way AFC East clusterfuck. Even after asshole Collinsworth declared them the AFC Champions (the Jets that is).
  
• The Ravens downed the 'Skins and all but ended their playoff hopes with the NFC South appearing primed to steal 1 spot and a probable second.
• And in typical Tony Romo fashion, the Dallas Cowboys lost a choker to the Steelers in the final quarter. While not a season-ender like the Redskins loss, this certainly forces dallas to make a run in the next 3 games to get in. And it won't be easy because they face the Giants and Ravens at home before traveling to Philadelphia for what could be a potential playoff play-in game.
  

Just a quick note about the MMBBQ today. It's going to be put up later this evening. I was concerned the links wouldn't make it up today, but they did (lunch hour!). I'll do my best to get my Petey rant up before day's end and sooner rather than later.

• A flury of baseball activity: With the winter meetings in vegas in full swing; The Reds traded pitcher Homer Bailey to the White Sox for Adam Dunn replacement Jermaine Dye, The Tigers acquired the Rangers' catcher Gerald Laird, The Yankees are in discussions with Mark Teixeira, Rafael Furcal rejected the A's, The Mets are talking with Frankie Rodriguez, And uppah-dehk-Tek has turned down the Red Sox Arbitration offer.
• AA has the update on the "On-Air Dong" seen on Fox last night.
• Randy Wolf - MLB Whore.
• PFT has the info on Jerruh Jones calling out Marion Barber. Barber missed yesterday's game with a broken toe, to which Jones said (directly from PFT): "He can play with that injured toe. He can play with the soreness and a combination of those things. I see nothing that led us to believe he couldn’t.”
• Again, PFT lets us known that the speculating for the Flex schedules the Sunday before Christmas has begun.
• DCProSportsBlog has begun the petition for actual Football minds to make decisions in the Redskins front office. Specifically, they want some drafting for the lines. Makes sense to me, but I have to say, their fans still suck ass.

Just a quick little Saturday DLL. I don't have much time and I'm going to be MIA most of the day, but I'll try to give you my opinion of the numerous conference title games today.

• AGM's Mbuterba discusses the "rivalry" between the Ravens and Redskins.
• Antonio Pierce met with NYC officials regarding the Burress incident. As much as Burress has become an issue, I believe that Pierce might be bigger, given his roll on the team (and irreplaceability) and importantance during the playoffs.
• Speaking of Pierce and the Giants, it seems Brian Westbrook will be available for the Eagles this weekend. Its probably fair to say, if Westbrook doesn't play, the Eagles are dunzo.
• We at BNB would like to wish the best to newly retired Greg Maddux. The Wizard is set to annouce his retirement Monday.
• Orenthal James Simspon received roughly 9 to 15 years in jail for his robbery almost two years ago. The story is really about his plea; in which he claims he's "really sorry" and "didn't mean to." Right.
  
• And finally, If you didn't see it last night, Kevin Garnett gave reserve forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis a little "business" during the huddle. Can't blame Garnett here, Davis and the reserves need to keep their head in the game. It gets better, see our DSRTSV!
  

Freedom Friday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/5/08)

Couple of thoughts on our new (yes another) Freedom Friday Daily "Linkin' Logs"

We'll be altering the format of Friday's links only slightly. Friday's lead column is completely ad hoc and could feature any lead column. The links won't be affected too much, but our lead column could range anywhere from sports to politics to any hot button issue that strikes me this AM.

In an unrelated not, I'm half done with the Bill Belichick/New England Patriots draft review. I can already tell you, based on the drafts I've graded already, he's most likely better than the three we've completed already (duh) and he could be the gold standard of drafting. Keep in mind, that none of the drafts graded involved Tom Brady (who would have scored an 8 or 9 total I believe). So look for that in the coming hours.

This weekend, I'm attending another college hockey game (10 dollar tickets and quality hockey make it a sport worth attending) and I'll also be meeting up with some friends before they all jaunt around the states for the holidays, so I won't be posting to heavily until Sunday. I'm hoping to get another draft review by Sunday, but no promises.

And in Freedom Friday tradition (well, now), let's talk about Northeastern Alum Jose Juan Berea's night; a night where he appears to be stealing Jason Kidd's job. With the Mavericks fading against the Suns, Barea lead a 10 point run in the 4th quarter. Barea light up the place and the Dallas fans loved the passion. Look for Barea to move from "co-starter" to starter by season's end if the trend continues.

• Chargers beat Raiders 34-7 on Thursday Night Football on the NFL Network...blah blah blah. Worse yet, with the injury to Jamarcus Russell and his season in doubt, you have to start to wonder what the Raiders are going to do. Fact of the matter is, blowing a top pick can set your franchise back years.
  
• You see, if the game matters, the team matters and the player matters, he'll play regardless of the criminal charges (and impending suspension) he'll be facing.
• The Yankees seem primed to grab one time Red Sock Derek Lowe as well as set up a meeting with C.C. Sabathia where (I believe) the Yankees will set their timetable. Honestly, its a smart move by the Yanks. They're going to pay more than anyone else for Sabathia because of his location preference (and the Yankees always pay more anyway), but if they allow him to shop for a month or two, the price can only go higher; so why not push him a little and make him accept an already high deal.
  
• Barry Bonds indicted. No; again.
• AA has the scoop on a tricky little foul during the OU-USC game.
• AGM's The Beast has the info on USC (football)'s plan to scrap a time out in exchange for wearing the home jerseys at the Rose Bowl.
  
• Mr E of EC says Sean Avery's mouth isn't out of the woods yet. Oh believe me, he's said much worse...still...
  
• And finally, Deadspin has the low down on Playboy's hottest sportscaster of 08.
  

Thirsty Thursday Daily "Linkin Logs" (12/4/08)

If you haven't heard already, #1 Alabama and #4 Florida are set to clash in the SEC title game in the Georgia Dome this weekend. The location in and of itself is nice, given its relatively close proximity to both schools and the fact that its both a college capacity size place and a pro quality facility.

But in my mind, this is the NCAA title game. And moreover, if Tebow runs it in on 4th and one against the Rebels, this is a #1 Florida versus #2 Alabama match-up instead of the current title game entrance. I don't see Texas, Texas Tech or Oklahoma standing in either team's way, but I have no desire to see Nick Saban raise another crystal ball. I believe Florida wins this one by pulling away in the second half.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the game is that #4 Florida is favored by more than a touchdown over Alabama (10 points to be exact). And say what you want about being #1 and undefeated but if there's any group of guys in the room who know more about football than anyone else, its the people setting the betting lines. You don't get respect in betting lines no matter who you are and fans or players getting upset by this are just fooling themselves, Florida is the better team.

• A Minnesota County judge has issued a restraining order against the NFL for the Vikings' Williamses. The move could allow both Pat and Kevin to play, however the NFL could also move swiftly as said judge is open to a hearing as early as...right now. Should be a fascinating scenario. Good thing the Vikings have the Lions this weekend.
  
• Apparently Giants G.M. Jerry Reese is open to a Plaxico Burress return in 2009, assuming all his legal troubles are over. Again, an interesting scenario that will play out. Problem is I don't see this one working out for Plaxico by 2009.
  
• Big Ben is hurt again. This time a mild knee injury (probably a mild sprain) that ended his practice early and may keep him out today. Good thing the Steelers are getting the likes of Willie Parker and Troy Polamalu in the game (under the same scenario as Ben, not practicing but playing) because their schedule (and fight with the Ravens for the division) isn't getting any easier.
  
• From bad to worse in Philly. After getting handled by Lower Marion standout Kobe Bryant (who got his fair share of boos because he's such an asshole), Elton Brand went down with an injury. While the Sixers poor play may be a troubling sign, keep in mind it took a while for last year's team to gel, and this year's with a new superstar, could take a while as well.
  
• The Knicks, regardless of dumping Isiah Thomas, are still the butt of numerous jokes in the league. Besides Stephon Marbury's "Waive me or play me" statement, the Knicks are so desperate for a guard they may actually watch Cuttino Mobley retire,and try to sign Allan Houston, their assistant GM.
  
• As we said yesterday, Dustin Pedroia signed a 6 year, $40.5 million extension. Also, the Cardinals traded for the Padres Kalil Greene, The Braves acquired Javiar Vazquez, The Mets resigned Nelson Figueroa and Ben Sheets declined the Brewer's arbitration offer. The Sheets deal is most interesting because A) The Brewers appear set to lose their top two pitchers and B) Sheets, in my opinion, is the best free agent pitcher (by bang for buck) on the market. He'll cost you maybe 65% of what Sabathia will and his production will probably be close, especially if Sabathia signed in the A.L.
  
• Sean Avery apologized, but even his Stars teammates are sick of his shit. Even coach Dave Tippett doesn't see Avery making it back (easily) to a lockerroom already concerned about its season.
  
• Well that didn't take long, Barry Melrose, after being canned by the "Ning Dynasty" is on his way back to ESPN for the 3 minutes of hockey that talk about during each episode of sportscenter.
  
• EC's DMtShooter gives us the top 10 new sports words of 2008.

Tired Tuesday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/2/08)

You know what you get when you mix to 4-7 teams on Monday night...

Shit.

Anyways, Bill Simmons has declared that the NBA season is down to six title contenders. So Philly, New York, half of Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver and so on and so forth can just stop watching. And this is why I hate both of them (Basketball and Simmons) to a certain degree. The basis of Simmons's argument is that teams like Boston, L.A. (Lakers), Cleveland, San Antonio, New Orleans and Utah all have had "reps" at being good. Which would be awesome...except Detroit has had a lot of reps and they don't even get addressed. Add to that, Simmons egotistical nature of knowing more than you (a common theme amongst writers who piss me off...a paradigm I will explain another time) and finally a dash of "Celtics basketball" to fellate himself. But my favorite part:

The Celtics survived a grueling championship campaign, gained a noticeable swagger, embraced the Lloyd Neal Memorial "That's right, we're the f------ champs" mentality and aced their three biggest tests in November (two against Detroit, one in Houston). They're getting those Defending Champ reps.

You see, Simmons uses an oboscure reference to make you believe he knows what's up, and if you know anything about Neal (I looked it up), you'll discover that all and in all, he was just an untalented but hard working player...I guess that adds up.

But really, They're the "Fucking Champs."

Now the other part the pisses me off is simpler: How can the NBA give off the feeling that only six teams are capable of winning it all. Maybe this is why that league will never be tops. In the NFL, the league thrives on the parity that anyone can win and you can go from rags to riches (to rags again...) in a three year span. In the MLB, it is a little be harder, and perhaps why they're second fiddle right now, but there are as many as 15 to 20 teams who appear to be able to put it together an eighth of the way through the season and, as was the case this year, any of 8 teams capable of winning it all (when the playoffs started, would you have been surprised to see any team win it all...I wouldn't have) and even Hockey has seen 8 seeds upset ones and is beginning to experience its own salary cap parity soon enough.

This is what makes college ball so much more appealing. If Stephen Curry can lead Davidson to the sweet 16, and a team like Villanova can win it all, then why would you skip any of the tourney games you could watch...

The NBA sucks...

• If someone can explain to me, how Pacman is back and Plaxico could be suspended (for a significant period of time...like a season), I'd like to know. Its not that I agree with Plax or think what he did was in any way intelligent (though getting shot in the league sucks as is), but between Michael Bloomberg throwing the book at him because he is a football player is already ridiculous and if Goodell follows suit in his typical fashion, I'd be just as outraged for Plax, as I would be for not being heavy-handed with Jones.
• Michael Bloomberg seems intent on throwing the book at Plax. Now typically, we're outraged by athletes getting away with things, but being heavy-handed with Burress is just a case of the opposite. He should be treated just like any other person/criminal in his position. I'm well aware of the 3.5 year minimum, but the fact of the matter is; rarely does a first time offender of said law ever spend 3.5 years in prison; why should Plax be the exception? I say, punish him like you'd punish me or Joe the Plummer
• Nice for the fans of Houston, but frankly that game sucked.
• From bad to worse in Cleveland. Kellen Winslow is out for at least a week, though the season was over a few weeks ago and Derek Anderson appears to be done as well. While Winslow's injury doesn't really matter (and a high ankle sprain wouldn't be something you'd play through unless it mattered), the Anderson injury may be a blessing in disguise. The Browns appear to be moving into the Quinn era and the injury to Anderson provides them with a reason to leave him on the bench and get Quinn ready without hurting Anderson's trade value any more (though between his poor play and injury, an MCL tear, he certainly isn't at the same point he was when he signed a three year deal last year).
  
• Arbitration day in the MLB, as 24 players were offered it.
• The Phillies appear to be ready to coast off their World Series run, by not offering arbiration to anyone. While they still are working to retain Jamie Moyer's services, it appears as though the Pat Burrell era is over in Philly. A sad ending to a much maligned player who finally found his niche.
  
• AA takes another jab at Emmitt Smith and Plaxico "Berries" (their word, not mine). Man, they're ridin' Emmitt hard, though its not their fault the man can ran through gaps in the English Language
• And finally, EC's DMtShooter gives us 10 ways to end the "Warbury" issue in New York.

The Return: Daily "Linkin' Logs" (12/1/08)

Sorry for the extended Hiatus. I intended to miss a few days because of the lack of internet connection, what I didn't anticipate was some ridiculous bus rides with just my blackberry and an extremely busy weekend which resulted in almost no down time, regardless of net connection.

Such is life. I hope y'all had a fine Turkey Day

Because of the lack of internet, I wasn't really aware of the Plexiglass situation in New York. Who the Hell is Harris Smith? Dude went from crazy to Bat Shit Fucking Nuts. Shooting yourself is pretty lame. A weapons charge in the state of New York is probably a bit lamer. Things with Burress could get pretty interesting.

• Rest in Peace Sean Taylor.
• One lucky franchise's fans will lose one home game next year. I don't know where David Stern gets all these naked photos of fellow Commissioners, but its working...
• The Supplement case involving the big names of numerous Vikings and Saints will come to (some type of) a head tomorrow.
• MLBTR gives us the fascinating updates of Arbitration rumors for the day. No really, its good stuff.
  
• Plax ain't Guilty?
• The curious case of the Big XII and the BCS. How a conference (or division of said conference) is decided by 12 computers I'll never know...

Tasty Tuesday (before Turducken Day) Daily "Linkin' Logs" (11/25/08)

I have a goal of posting a draft review today. It may or may not come to fruition because I'm also making holiday travels late tonight (a midnight bus to be exact), but if I can crank the review, I will. Beyond that, the next few draft reviews may be entering the murky holiday time. At most, I'll post two between now and next Monday. I apologize, but I'm sure you all will be busy as well.

In an unrelated note, Northeastern Hockey is now ranked 4th in the Nation in both the USCHO and USA Today polls, tops among Hockey East teams. Northeastern is set to face #7 Princeton this weekend in the RPI Holiday Tournament in what could be considered a national statement game. Additionally, they are entered in the Dodge Holiday Classic, set for the weekend after New Years where they could face current #1 Minnesota (they could only meet in the championship for the four team tournament) in what could be a preview for the NCAA Tourney. Needless to say, its an exciting time for Husky Hockey which hasn't been this competitive since the mid 80s.

• The name "Dr. James Andrews" is probably the worst name in all of sports. Andrews, of course, is an excellent doctor, but if your star player needs to see him, its always bad. Real bad. Like Brady Quinn...sorry Browns fans.
• If there was ever a doubt ESPN didn't suck the big one, it has just been removed. AA gives us the scoop on ESPN's new plan to charge for video content. Much like the bullshit that is "Insider," I have no intention of paying for it...and again, its ridiculous, though if they somehow obtain the NCAA Basketball Tourney games, the shit could hit the fan.
  
• Wait, Mike Vick is still be charged (and convicted/pleading guilty) of stuff? The hands of justice is indeed very very slow. Oh well, at least the IRS isn't after him. What? They are?
• It looks like the Angels might appear to be just the medicine C.C. Sabathia was looking for (and the wallet too)
• The Pirates appear to be scouring all lands for pitchers...high, low, near, far...very very far. Like Indian Cricket Players far...
• Red Sox. Varitek. Not yet. And not ever, if I were a Sox fan. Any time a catcher's redeeming qualities are:"calls a good game" and "plays good defense" its code for "he sucks balls." Varitek wants a big payout (relatively) and frankly he's not worth it. How much does Kevin Cash suck for him not to start? Seriously? Is he defense/pitch calling so bad that they'd prefer to have 'Tek and his .200 average?
• If you thought my Survivor Series rundown sucked, try EC's on for size.
• Mike Leach says TT should be the top ranked 1-loss team in NCAA Football. As opposed to other teams who didn't just lose (by 44 fuckin' points!) to other 1 loss teams. Plus you can toss in Florida who lost by just 1 to an unranked (but talented opponent). Its hard to come back from being soundly whipped and in this case Leach is just really off.
• The Knicks are probably the most ridiculously entertaining franchise in the NBA.
  
• And finally, BNB will never miss a chance to give you Lenny Dykstra quotes...Not now, not ever
  

Daily "Linkin' Logs" - Survival Edition (11/24/08)

As a sports fan, I really try to attend/view/embrace numerous sporting events. If you haven't gathered already, I'm a casual to interested NCAA Hockey fan (brought on by my Alma Mater), I enjoy the occasional Boxing Match (definitely a casual fan) and I will watch the World Cup when it gets to a National broadcast level.

Which brings me to my weekend where I watched #6 Northeastern defeat #13 New Hampshire 3-2 (NU went on to a 4 point weekend, beating UMass-Lowell 4-3 Saturday, while UNH salvaged 2 points by beating Providence 4-3). Then Saturday I took in the Hatton-Malignaggi fight which Hatton soundly whipped Malignaggi to a 8 round TKO. Amongst the entertaining moments was Ricky Hatton walking to the ring (afterall "There's only oooonnnneee Ricky Hatton, ooooooonnnneee Ricky Hatton") in a fat suit (mocking the discussion over him losing 40 pounds in order to get into the fight) and Malignaggi being significantly upset over having his trainer throw in the towel, even though, without constantly grabbing Hatton, he would have been knocked out, if not seriously hurt.

And it culminated Sunday, when a buddy and I attended Survivor Series in Boston. Yeah, that's right, we went to a pro-wrestling event. I called it "getting in touch with my inner 13 year old." I know what some of you will say; my only advice is, until you just accept the fact that its fake, and then sit back and enjoy, you really don't know. Its certainly athletic. Its theatric. Its entertainment. And frankly, it was cheaper for us to attend the event than actually order in on PPV...so we went. A quick rundown:

• The three Survivor Series matches were okay (and really just okay).
• Team Shawn Michaels defeated Team JBL in the first match. It was about par for the course and really predictable.
  
• Team Randy Orton defeated Team Batista. Actually what it came down to was Batista kicking everyone's ass after his team sucked balls. Orton won with some bullshit trickery...I don't get it, how do these referees only notice the good guys trying to cheat. Seriously, I know its fake, but at least put a little effort in.
  
• The Diva match was meh. There's basically 6 hot Divas and 4 Uggos. And letting the Uggos battle it out near the end was bullshit. No one wants to see them. I don't get some wrestling fans who cheer for some of these women. I really don't give a shit if they're good at wrestling...so leave those women to do...whatever it is they do and just let the hot ones show their goods.
• The Casket Match featuring the Big Show and The Undertaker was really crappy to start with. Then, as the Big Show appeared to have enough, he flipped the casket over and began to walk away. The Undertaker used his dark magic (read: pyrotechnics) to keep the Big Show close to the entrance stage, had another casket brought out and ended the match by tossing the Big Show into a standing casket, knocking it over and causing the door to shut; ending the match and declaring the Undertaker the winner.
• The Triple H - Vladimir Kozlov match just plain sucked. It was slow and boring, which is typical of Kozlov matches (he just doesn't have it. He's supposed to be a heel, but no one really cares. I booed him because the match sucked and there were chants of "boring" during the match). Originally the match was scheduled to be a triple threat and include Jeff Hardy, but he was announced to be out of the match at the beginning of the evening. Now what I didn't get was WWE announced that according to "TMZ and ABC News Boston" Jeff Hardy will not be wrestling tonight. How does that work. Does WWE need to consult real news services to confirm their fake news? So as the match is going on and both Triple H and Kozlov and on the mat, the "Smackdown" GM Vicki Guerrero walks out and announces that it will be a triple threat and introduces Edge as the third opponent. How the hell does this work? After those two beat the shit out of each other, then Edge gets to fight. Who condones this shit? So then of course Edge runs in and beats everyone up. So now, the crowd, who's been calling for Hardy the entire match, gets their wish and Hardy runs in to disrupt the whole thing. First he clubs Edge with a few fists, then he grabs a chair, nails Kozlov and then goes after Edge and Triple H. Edge ducks, Triple H gets hammered and Edge spears Hardy. He then goes on to pin Triple H and is declared the New Champ.
• And finally, the awaited title match between Chris Jericho and John Cena. Now, another thing I never got is why in the WWE that the order of entrances is always discombobulated. In any legit event, the Champ always comes out last, but in WWE, its always the guy who would get the biggest ovation (or boos, but biggest reaction). Now, I get why, but it still pisses me off; the idea is to give off the appearence that the show is "real." Its called acting. Also, Chris Jericho looks like a rooster with the haircut. The match was entertaining and the crowd was pulling for Cena (he's from Newton, about a half hour from Boston). Cena pulled off the win in his comeback fashion and was declared the champion.

Well, that's about it. It was worth the admission price and I highly endorse the entertainment factor of the WWE. There was certainl an eclectic crowd with a massive age (and intelligence, I think there were some middle schoolers with more brains than a few adults) range. None the less, highly entertaining.

• DMtShooter of EC gives the Eagles fans some options. The torches are lit in Philadelphia and the potential Phillies Honeymoon for fellow franchises appears to be over...in like 3 weeks.
  
• In a stunner, Andy Reid pulled Donovan McNabb in the 2nd half of a must win game. Look, I know he played pretty poorly, but at least he was only 10-7. Who gives you a better chance to win, McNabb or an untest (essentially) rookie QB against the best defense in the league. Seriously, the torches are lit.
  
• Ok, so they beat the Titans. I'm sorry, but the Jets are not the best team in the AFC.
• After toying with a possible signing with the Bobcats, it appears as though Antonio McDyess will return to the Pistons next month.
• Chad Billingsly is injured. Seriously, this just happened. Injuries are always bad, but the timing here is about as good as it gets.
  
• The guy who beat up Jose Canseco has not set his sights on Andy Reid.
• Let it go Terrell, Let it go...
• Keep an eye on the Rule 5 draft. Generally, its a lot of forgettable names and questionable choices, but keep in mind, players like Shane Victorino can be had for nothing. This is the type of movement that can shape teams in October.
  
• And finally, I'm just linking this for the picture, but yes when the coach says "grab anything" he's fuckin' serious.

Late Saturday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (11/22/08)

Admittedly, we think we need a weekend crew for BNB, but until we get one (again, hit us up if you're interested...we can talk about it), myself and a few fellow BNBers will try to fill the void.

With that in mind, I'll try to provide a few links and commentary for today:

• TheFightins and Deadspin give us an update on MVP Runner up Ryan Howard's love life...he's doin' ok.
• Ah there, there's the Terrell Owens we all know and love.
• No Choke needed, P.J. Carlesimo was shitcanned by the Thunder for plain suckitude.
• The Knicks recent moves appear to be a primer for the LeBron sweepstakes in 2010. Now, as a Knicks fan, I suppose you can be excited, but its got to be a little depressing, after being the punchline of the league for the last few years or so to be told to wait for (arguably) the best player in the league...to come next decade.
  
• Wait, A.J. Burnett is too rich for the Yankees? Too much? Really? Wow, the effect of Hal and fiscal responsibility is here.
  
• Philadelphia Eagles Fans of Boston, Unite! Actually, I've known about the group for years (though I've never attended). Its a great group (from what I've heard), if not a little overzealous. Good for them...and once again proving that Philly fans travel (or live, i guess) very well.
• And finally, Joey Porter will not shut the fuck up...
  

Hammerin' Hank's Daily "Linkin' Logs" (11/21/08)

If you didn't already know, Hammerin' Hank...wait, no Hal Steinbrenner will be taking (officially) the place of George (or perhaps simply Larry David) as Yankees Chairman (and partial owner).

Hal has actually been more involved with the team, namely from a financial aspect (he's got the brains), while brother Hank has been more focused on the baseball side of things. There's no doubt that Hank will take the place as family "Boss" when his father passes.

And it's almost a sad day for baseball. And in a Charles Wilson-esque utterence (former GM CEO), George once declared "What's good for the Yankees is good for baseball." And to some extent that's true (and perhaps the Red Sox too). George hasn't passed yet, but you can sense, between Hank and Hal, that his fate is sealed and Baseball will lose another figure. But what Steinbrenner has done, overseen baseball's most powerful franchise reach a climax in popularity, both in the city and the game, is something that may in fact be "Hall of Fame" worthy.

And it didn't take Hal long to act. After offering C.C. Sabathia a contract (projected to be upwards of $137.5 million), Hal threatened not to take flack from anyone:

"We've made him an offer. It's not going to be there forever," - Hal Steinbrenner

And with that, the new Yankees era seems an awful lot like the old one. The Yankees won't play second fiddle (or 2nd choice) to the Dodgers or anybody.

• Another ding in the Dallas armor, Felix Jones is done for the year. All of the sudden, letting Julius walk doesn't seem so smart and I really can't see Marion Barber III capably handling (his style of play and) a full load through the playoffs. Of course Dallas has to get there first...
• After the "Bunk at the Bank," Allen Huber "Bud" Selig has moved to change the rule. All World Series games will soon be required to go the full 9. I can't imagine a scenario where this doesn't get approved.
• Was Bill Simmons flying your plane? Seriously, how does this happen?
• Tracer Bullet of EC wants the McNabb hating to stop.
• So? Should the Pistons have also tried to get KG suspended?
• The whole Chad Johnson (Ocho Cinco...whatever) thing has really gotten out of hand and overblown. The Orlando Sentinal's blog has the scoop. Apparently Cinco was late to a meeting, and when he finally came, he was very "laid back" to say the least. The result was arguments between him, a staffer and eventually Marvin Lewis. Chad was punished by not playing last night...end of story

Daily "Linkin' Logs" - Ode to Mussina (11/20/08)

Fear not, Daily "Linkin' Logs" will make an appearance.

Mike Mussina, coming off a 20 wins season, will retire. We at BNB would like to formerly bid adieu to the Orioles great (and...ugh...Yankee pitcher) who is well over 100 games above .500 in career record and should (deservingly) earn a spot in the Hall soon enough.

• Chase Utley will have Hip Surgery next week. If, like me, you're a Phillies fan, you knew Chutley was hurt, but he sucked it up and still produced above the level of an average second baseman in the second half. Given his previous history with his wrist injury in 2007, I believe Utley will be back by May, baring no issues.
  
• As we mentioned in a previous "Linkin' Logs;" Warren Sapp has now apologized to "She-Shawn"...pussy...
• One of our favorite AA posts is their announcing schedules (and maps) for the upcoming weekend in the NFL. While they do steal them from another site, we'll link to AA...because they make it funny!
• Another day, another sale of an MLB player to Japan (like cattle). Reminds me of this classic Phillies youtube video. Now I'm actually kind of annoyed it didn't really happen...

Daily "Linkin' Logs" - MVP Edition (11/18/08)

I've always been a pretty big fan of Albert Pujols. I think a lot of people respect him, and are really in awe of watching (arguably) the best hitter in baseball. Most people think Pujols could do a number of things, including breaking Hank Aaron's 755...

So Albert won his 2nd MVP yesterday. Pretty simple to pick the guy who batted .357 with 37 homers and 116 RBIs (top 10 in each).

"I see it this way: Someone who doesn't take his team to the playoffs doesn't deserve to win the MVP"

But what I enjoyed most about the MVP award was Pujols being forced to face the music for his comments when Ryan Howard earned the award in 2006, a year in which Ryan Howard batted .313 with 58 homes and 149 RBIs and his team finished just outside the playoffs. This year Pujols got the honor, for a team that really faded down the stretch and didn't have a shot in the final week.

And yet he still won it.

"I think the writers made the right choice in 2006. [Howard] did deserve it (the MVP)."

Well, I guess all is right again in MVP/non-playoff team world as both have now not won the MVP in the same year as they won a World Series...

• Pedro Martinez has declared that he'll pitch in '09. Omar Minaya has stated that the Mets will be in the mix, though I can't image them (nor can Minaya) making any offer that would blow Pedro away. Then again, I can't see any team really doing that.
• PFT is surmising that maybe een Andy Reid didn't know the overtime rules, given the way he handled Philly (Trenton Times) beat writer Mark Eckel's OT question. Now I've been as annoyed with Reid as anyone else, but the guy is a meticulous planner and student, I really somehow doubt that he didn't know the rule. I believe its possible he overlooked the fact that McNabb didn't know, but I really can't imagine that Reid didn't himself.
  
• Not a link: Not sure if this is a trend, but our friend Mookie brought it to my attention the following two facts: 1) Prior to the 2007 playoffs, I declared the New York Giants the worst 10-6 football team I'd ever seen - They went on to win the Super Bowl 2) During our weekly "Pick 'em" contest about a month ago, I said that the Buffalo Bills would be the AFC Conference Champs - They haven't won a game since. With that said: The Dallas Cowboys are going to win out and claim the Super Bowl title 41-0. Done.
• A Little Late: The Bluey Blog discusses the 66 million dollar "Oops" by the NFL during the Steelers-Chargers game.

Lazy Sunday Daily "Linkin' Logs" (11/16/08)

Ugh. I'm still recovering from a 1+ day hangover. After Friday night's shitshow, I needed a solid Saturday of recovery and still am a little wobbly after that. Maybe its just age catching up to me?

Anyway, tonight I get to experience a blogging rarity (simply because no one talks about it), but I will be in attendance as cross-town rivals Northeastern University (#7) and Boston University (#1) will face off for what will probably be the title of Boston's best hockey team (at least until the teams meet again) after NU stunned former #1 Boston College.

What has (again) turned into a great rivalry (though BC-BU fans would disagree) should provide tons of entertainment for all in attendance. BU's squad features a ton of finesse, talent and scoring power but NU's group features toughness, grit and determination to prove they belong.

• Alex Kovalev is a dick...but I guess Karma is a bitch...
• PFT suggests an interesting scenario that could have the NFL powers scratching their heads. I think it could be a fascinating scernario and might actually make the fans happier, but providing both a Sunday and Monday night Championship game entertainment fest in the dead of winter.
  
• We tip our caps to John Lynch, one of the heaviest hitters in the league.
• Darrell Rasner is going Japanese...seriously, the Yankees sold him to a Japanese team for $1 million dollars. And to think this guy (I believe) was once part of a possible Johan Santana package.
  
• The NY Daily News suggests that the entire FA market may in fact rest on the Yankees and C.C. Sabathia. I guess we're all waiting with baited breath...
