Pro Bowl to Be Played the Week Before the Super Bowl

At long last, there will be football played in between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl! Not a 3rd place game, but the Pro Bowl! Instead of having that pointless game the week after meaningful football is over, it will be played the week before the Super Bowl and it will also be played at the site of the big game and not in Honolulu.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not announced the move.

It’s not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The NFL has discussed it multiple times in recent years, and commissioner Roger Goodell told the AP last month that having the game precede the Super Bowl would avoid a “somewhat anticlimactic” ending to the season.

The Pro Bowl has been held in Honolulu since 1980, and it’s probable that the game will return to Hawaii after 2010, although not on the permanent basis as has been the case over the last three decades.

A smart move to get ratings because any football played after the Super Bowl is basically going to get no attention. Honestly, I would get rid of the Pro Bowl and have a 3rd place game, but I guess this isn’t so bad.

Note that players on teams competing in the conference championship games will not play, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they end up adjusting the Pro Bowl voting.
